133 ram may or may not work properly. Older "low density" does and -- at
least for BH6 v1.0x -- newer "high density only works half way (i.e., 256
only works as 128). This is true for all BX chipset mobos.
The BH6 is a slot 1 mobo. An adapter (Slotket) allows use of a 370 socket
cpu. Originally adapters for cpus with -- what was it up to 566 MHz or the
next model -- lower clock speeds were used. Then adapters for Coppermine
cpus allowed these to be used. This allowed use of 1.1 Gb Celerons. I
don't know about PIII. The PIIIs that would work went up to something like
1000 Mb, but these were hard to find and expensive. Some Coppermine
adapters could be hacked to work with Tualatin Celerons. Then, PowerLeap
came out with an expensive Tualatin adapter. A year or 2 ago the
inexpensive Slot-T came out which allowed use of the early Tualatin
Celerons. I don't think the later Tualatin Celerons could be used with
these and I don't think that an adapter was made for them. You could use up
to 1.4 Gb Cellys. I don't think you could go higher, but you need to check
if you want a Tully.
I still have 2 BH6 systems with Coppermine adapters and 1.1 Gb Cellys. Some
guys will try to talk out of using the Bh6. My BH6 systems are perfectly
fine for e-mail, web browsing, and office applications (word processing).
I'm not a gamer so I can't tell you what games will work OK and which won't.
This is a 5-6 year old mobo, but the need for speed is not moving up that
fast for most users. I'll keep using the BH6 for email, browsing, word
processing, and such till they die. The USA is still using B-52s from the
1950's. Just 'cause something is old doesn't mean it ain't good enough.
That said, cost and performance are issues. If you need fast systems for
current games, CAD, audio/video editing, etc., a BH6 is not the way to go.
If you can't get free or almost free parts, the cost will be too high
compared to what you can buy in the way of new stuff.
If you can't get low or no cost parts, you may be better trying to sell the
BH6s on eBay, but you won't get much. These would be great for a computer
class or a young person learning the ropes if they can get the parts cheaply
enough.
