How do I get back the CD audio directly from the headphone jack of CDROM
drive? My both CDROM and DVDROM does not give any sound through the
headphone jack. They are CREATIVE and I'm using WinXP.

you have to plug in the cable that came with your cd drive, to the
motherboard. then u can get sound from the headphone jack on the cd drive.

I meant the built-in headphone jack on CDROM drive, but not the one at the
rear end of soundcard.

yes, thats what i am telling you. its a thin cable that goes from behind the
cd drive to a socket on the motherboard.

Yes, I'll try it. But, far as I know, the digital CD audio does not need to
be routed through sound card. I remember at the early times, i.e. still
using Win3.1, we can simply plug in the earphone to listen the music while
at office.

In the soundcard's settings, test toggling the "digital" mode to the
opposite state.
Depending upon the card, you may find this checkbox by double-clicking the
speaker icon on the taskbar, then clicking on ADVANCED.

Digital sound will not come out of the front audio jack on the CD drives.
This jack is only analog and you need to connect the sound card analog cable
between the CD drive and sound card. Then, you need to tell the Windows
driver to use analog sound instead of digital.
This jack is a "left-over" since the start of the CD Rom drives.
