I have a 80 gig hard drive. I had to re-install Windows
XP due to some stuff up. Anyway, after installation it
shows that I have a 80 gig hardrive but tells me in
properties that I only have 9 gig. Whenever I load
software onto it, I have to cleanup my hardrive to get
more space as it reports that my harddrive is full (at 9
gig). This was never a problem before I had to re-install
Windows. Can anyone help? I am sure it must be some sort
of partition issue!

It looks like you partitioned it wrong when you
reinstalled windows. You can either reinstall windows
again and fix it or go to Disk Managment
(Start>Settings>Control Panel>Administrative
Tools>Computer Managment>Storage>Disk Managment)
Have a little look there.

Maxtor suggest that there are three possible answers to this question:
Check with the system or motherboard manufacturer for any BIOS upgrades for the system. If there are no BIOS updates from the manufacturer you can visit www.esupport.com for a BIOS update. Maxtor Corporation has no affiliation with esupport.com and offers this information as a courtesy to our customers.

(Recommended) Purchase a PCI ATA controller card that will support the capacity of the drive. The two benefits of ATA controller cards are:
the ability to support large capacity drives
the ability to support the faster transfer rates of the drive. Maxtor's online store, www.MaxStore.com, has a complete selection of ATA controller cards that support all Maxtor drives.

The last option would be to use our MaxBlast software. The MaxBlast software will install an overlay (EZ-BIOS) on the hard drive to support the full capacity of the drive.

Probably is... partition issue as you guessed. When you re-installed, you
should have seen a screen showing the old install of XP and wold have been
asked if you wanted to delete this partition with the old XP... Yes...And
then setup a NEW partition which would probably be about 76 gigs or so..
This will leave 4 gigs or so that is unpartitioned (80gig drive , less 4
gigs) which is normal, i think. Setup Xp on this new raw partition; yes....
I have done this carelessly myself and wound-up with a much smaller HD like
you did.
It is easy to miss this if you aren't used to re-installing steps..
