AN8 Ultra - uGuru causes hang

I have just installed a new AN8-Ultra motherboard with Venice-cored AMD64
3000 + 4Gb RAM.
I'd like to use the motherboard to control the CPU, System & Auxilliary
fans. However, whenever
I adjust the uGuru settings in the BIOS and save, the PC hangs. I have to
power-off manually.
When the PC is restarted, it has reverted to 'safe mode' and the CPU, SYS
and Aux fan control is
disabled, while the NF4 and OTES fans (which the Ultra doesn't have) are
Enabled.

Also, if I use the uGuru utility in Windows XP, then changing any setting at
all causes the PC to
instantly lock up.

I have updated the BIOS to the latest (AN815) but no improvement.

Apart from this, the PC is stable - but very noisy because all fans are
running at full speed all
the time.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Hi Cliff,

i had the same problem. I determined, that the PC hangs (on saving)
only, if I set the MIN-setting of the CPU-fan lower than 9.5V or 10V. So
I let it on 10V or above an plug the CPU-fan to an OTES-FAN-connector on
the mb (which supports also 6V). Perhaps this works also in your case.

(note: if you don't plug any fan to the CPU-connector on the mb, you
have to disable the monitor-warning and shutdown for CPU-fan.)

I have experienced similar problems with my AN8 Ultra and AMD 3000+
(Venice). At the moment I have CPU FanEQ set to "Cool" in uGuru
SoftMenu and the system seems to be 100% stable. A few days ago I tried
changing it to "Quiet" instead and immediately got a BSOD saying
"machine_check_exception". I have not tried changing the settings since
then.

With the "Cool" setting the CPU fan is running almost at maximum speed
so the voltage is probably above 10V. The "Quiet" setting sets a lower
voltage so it seems to fit your explanation Teddy.

I have not had any problems with the fans connected to SYS and AUX.
Connecting the CPU fan to an OTES-connector sounds like a smart
workaround for the problem.
