Recognizing disc in cd drive

I can play a cd in the drive, but can't copy music from my pc. I have done it in the past, but now I get a message to insert a writable cd, after inserting a new CD-R. The music that I have tried to copy is shown as "ready to copy to disc" When I try to drag and drop, it says the folder already contains the file. I've tried other methods also.
