Hi,

My lads Athlon system, 1800+ processor and 3 x 256MB PC2100
memory has just died.

I'm not sure if it's the mobo or the processor thats gone.

I figured the cheapest way forward would be to buy a new NF7-S mobo
and try it with the old processor and memory. If I get no joy then I'll
buy a new processor as well.

Can anyone tell me if the the NF7-S will support the 1800+
processor and PC2100 memory?

Secondly, whats the highest spec processor that I could buy that would
still be compatable with the PC2100 memory?

Thanks, Steve.

Any, up to 3200+ as long as you run the ram at 133MHz.

Hi Steve, Wes is absolutley correct. I would suggest when you set up the new
board use 2 of the best matched 256 sticks you have. Put 1 stick in slot 3
and the other in slot 2. Slot 3 is furthest from the processor on the
NF7sv2. Doing it this way WILL reduce your total memory to 512mb, but the
tradeoff is you will get dual channel operation with that ram. I think the
overall performance would be better. If you can snag a 512 stick somewhere
that matches the 256 pair you have, you can put the 512 into slot 3, the
pair of 256's in slots 2 and 1, thus giving you 1gb of Dual channel. Toss
the other 256 stick in the drawer.

The bottom line is that if you use all 3 of your 256 sticks in the NF7sv2,
you WILL forfeit the dual channel feature of it as the 2 channels would then
be unbalanced. Slot 3 is one channel and slots 1 and 2 is the other. They
MUST be balanced to do dual channel.

I would also recommend a PSU of at least 400W rating for that board. Use one
that has the extra 4 prong power plug for the processor.
