Mouse installation problems

I installed the Windows XP Home edition upgrade and found
I needed a new mouse - a PS/2 or USB mouse. I got an
Intellipoint Optical 4.1 and the CD will not install the
software. It keeps saying it must install the Logitech
pointing device. I have run the "uninstall" a couple of
times, also zapped the folders that contained any
Logitech files. Still it wants to reboot and asks to
uninstall.

Any hints??

Go to Start>Run type: regedit Navigate to Hkey_Current_User\Software
Delete Logitech folder if there. Also Hkey_Local_Machine\Software Do
the same.
Rt click MyComputer>select Properties>Hardware>Device Manager>Mouse and
other Pointing Devices. Expand and rt click on PS/2 Mouse and select
Uninstall. Restart and let XP reinstall your mouse.
See if the Software installs Ok. If still have trouble then try
installing in Safe Mode. Just tap F8 repeatedly
on Startup and select Safe Mode.
