I am having such a hard time deciding what mobo to get. with epox 8k7a+ and the issues surrounding that board i have booted that option. The Kg7 is not out and it's new technology so it's not an option and i do not like asus boards. So which board would you buy? Any known issues with it, specify which one.

Motherboard choice
The 7DXR has the AMD761 chipset... so i don't need the stupid Via drivers. the 7VTX has v-link though. Does it even matter? *shrugs*

Thanks!!!

My sig is better then your's!

Why not the FIC AD 11, it's a very nice mobo.

"2 DDR DIMM; up to 1GB of PC2100 DDR Memory"

it only supports 1GB of ram? the gigabyte is superior in quality (in my opinion) and the GA-3dxr supports up to 3GB (2GB unbuffered) and the GA-7tvx(or something like that) supports 3GB of RAM. *shrugs*

I'm getting into 3dstudio max and multimedia so RAM is pretty important and the extra slot helps. PLus the GA-3dxr has 3 DIMM slots where the FIC only has two and i read a review on the gigabyte board where all 3 slots work... as long as you don't go over 2GB though. ya know?

Do you actually believe what you think?

you can only use the 3 slots if you get regestred ram

Ok, I use 3D Studio Max R3, and have a mere 512 MB DDR. You simply don't need extra RAM; 3D Studio Max does give a damn about bandwith, but rather how good teh FPU on your processor is. In many cases I've rendered off the hard drive, and I'v got no performance loss (my regular rendering speed; 0 seconds per frame). Save your money and get a GF3 and turn it onto Quadro DCC and use maxtreme, 3D Studio Max becomes very powerful.

are you crazy? You will never have 1GB of SDRAM, at least not for about 3 years. By then you will have a new motherboard anyways. Besides, in order to get 3GB you need 1GB modules which haven't even come out in DDR yet.

At the biggest peak recorded I've used 868M out of the 1G I've got in my machine. However this was using a program I wrote to do work on a database that I run for work. When rendering most I've hit is about 384, for a damn complex scene in Bryce.

I really don't think you're going to use above a gig of RAM unless it's code you written yourself.

Look at the size of that thing!

i know.. but there are 3 slots however and all 3 slots work. i read a review on the board and it did very very well. you just can't go over 2GB of unbuffered ram.. has to do with the table and the chipset supporting more then 2GB. i'm guessing but ya ...2GB is fine cos it's an upgrade from my current 1.5GB support... why go down to 1GB with only 2 slots.

I ordered the GA-7DXR the the other day infact and i should have it by the weekend. The epox board has issues.. the KG7 isn't even out and who knows if that board will have problems. Also the GA-7DXR had no problems with any memory modules at all. it did well in the review unlike the other gigabyte board that has the VIA chipset and i hate to say it VIA sucks. Finally i don't need special via 4-in-1 drivers now woo! heh...

but hey it's cool!

heres my new setup!

Gigabyte GA-7DXR
1.333mhz tbird Ahyja (or whatever the stepping is) unlocked. Git a kickass heatsink and fan.. it has a copper base. it was 40 bucks.. i looked at the swifttech one 72 bucks! i'm like ahh no i'll just get this heh.
256 PC2400 Corsair RAM (i see reviewers use this RAM all the time so i figure it's gotta be good)

my new case is killer! has 13 bay drives! full tower and has 5 5-1/4 bays, 7 3-1/2 bays hidden and 1 3-1/2 bay for floppy! Has a slide out tray for motherboard too!

here's the reason for the case!
I got the Live! Drive IR w/ remote (my friend gets the platinum card .. i already have a sound blaster live! x-gamer 5.1 SC)
CD-ROM
CD-Writer
DVD-ROM

IBM hard drive with cooler attached (so it takes up 2 3-1/2 bays) a maxtor hard drive and a seagate hard drive. so i have actually grown out of my current case and needed something bigger. heh!

the Gigabyte board is pretty cool.. overclockers dream. has jumpers for everything including a jumper to change the AGP pro voltage! also ram and all that too.

Do you actually believe what you think?

ya but i just wanted the extra slot which is suppose to work with all unbuffered ram according to the review.

I agree with ya i'd never use 2gb of ram lol.. but iwanted the extra slot .. *shrugs* should clear myself better when writiing lol it's hard when your super tired though.

by the way - I hate to burst your bubble but your mobo still has the VIA 686B southbridge so you'll be needing some of those VIA drivers after all...

You should say why don´t you like ASUS Boards (The best ones according to everyone!)!

There´s no such thing as an ugly woman!
You just haven´t drank enough! :-D

Reply to LordKaos

are you sure? because the mobo doesn't come with 4-in-1 drivers so i just assumed. Might be something to look into.

hmmmm....

check the website - also the southbridge won't have a hs on it - so you can always read it.

pretty much all the AMD 761 mobos have via southbridge because the mobo manufactuteres thought the AMD southbridge was too steep.
