Hi, i have been trying to get a Hitachi removable 20GB
hard drive to work on a XP laptop. It recognmizes it in
the device manager, and within my computer it keeps
flashing up and then gets loses the drive.

I have tried the drive on other machines including XP and
2000 and it works fine.

Any Ideas

Hi,

When you use the Ext. Hdd, what are you using AC power or battery pack power for the laptop?
If you are using the battery pack, try use AC power to see if there is any different.
If there is no different, try update the USB drivers.
There are USB1.1 and USB2.0 drivers update at the windows update site in the recommended update column.
Also, you may try update the mobo BIOS and chipset drivers.
