problem with the installation, your new hardware may not
work properly". suspect (strongly) that i need to
partition/format this drive. how do i if i cant see it in

Hi,

Right click My Computer/Manage/Disk management,
double click disk management, on the lower right pane, you should see the new ext HDD which usually shown as removable mass storage device.
Right click on it and select initialize drive, assign a drive letter and then format and partition the drive to your desire.

I am having the same problem with the same gear, external
2.5" hard drive running on WIN XP pro. The drive shows
shows up in all configurations but is NOT assigned a drive
letter!?!? Therefore it does not show up in Explorer, and
can't drag and drop anything into/out of it. If you get
any information on this please let me know what/why.
Thanx.

Right click on My Computer and select Manage. On the following screen,
click on Disk Management..... when it shows up on the right hand side of the
screen, assign it a drive letter.
