Hello all:

After doing some shopping today for a new comp system, and originally
looking for the ECS K7S5A mainboard (none in town) I was convinced by the
salesperson to by the ASUS A7VX8-X . I was a little sketchy at first, but
figured that due to the reputation on the k7s5a, i couldn't be taking much
of a risk.
Any opinions out there? Would love to know how those that have this board
feel about it, and if there are any "quirks" or features on this board i
should know about, i'd greatly appreciated it.

here's what i've got:

Asus A7VX8-X mainboard

AMD Athlon XP 2000 chip w/ Vantec VA4-C7 Heatsink (bought this about 1 year
ago, couldn't put into my k7s5a without flashing the bios, but known issues
with flashing my rev. date, so i decided against it.)

Asus Radeon 9600 SE Video card

Western Digital 120GB Harddrive

512k DDR ram

Liteon DVD/CD Rewriteable drive

Soundblaster Live! 5.1 Soundcard (pulled from my old board - giving the old
Duron 850 to my little girl, will just use onboard sound with small speakers
on that.)

TIA,

Jamie

I have built 3 systems in the last 2 months for customers using the A7V8X-X
and I have had no problems at all.I am using the AMD athlon XP 2500+ cpu in
those setups with the Radeon 9200 SE and 9600 Pro's.

For the price it is an excellent board and beats the ECS all to heck.

I've been using this board for a couple of years now with no problems.
My system consists of an Athlon 2100 with the stock out of the box fan
and heat sink. 512 mb of ram. I'm using a Leadtek video card with the
Nvidia chipset 64mb of video ram. I run Windows XP Pro, and have a DSL
connection to the net. I have this system networked to an older
computer that I built with a Abit Kt7-raid board. No problems with that
system either, however I prefer the Asus board because it's easier to
update.

Just built a system with that board, Athlon XP 3000+, 512DDR PC3200, GF4
Ti4200, XP Pro. Bios 1009. Solid as a rock so far.
