You have a good point. The 721 is $249 and the 772 is $385 at newegg.com. Difference is the CM721F does not have 'ErgoFlat', has 17% less refresh rate (75 vs 90) and 12% lower frequency (202 vs 230) than the 772. Is that worth $136? I don't know. Perhaps someone who has a 772 will tell us.
Found a review site http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/reviews/hardware/index.cfm/action/top/cat/9 that has both these monitors. Looks like the Flatron wins easily. The Iiyama Vision Master Pro 451 also got very good review.

i also want to add that you may want to look at the 955DF from Samsung
this is my choice
i narrowed it down to Hitachi CM721F and Samsung 955Df but if Hitachi isn't ergo flat then i will eliminate that no questions asked
I checked out the Samsung 955DF. It has following specs. Shadow mask, 1600x1200@65Hz, 1280x1024@~75Hz, 135MHz freq, cost around $255. As long as you stay at or below 1280x1024 it should be a nice monitor for a good price.
I wanted something better and got the Flatron 915FT+. It is slot mask, 1600x1200@85Hz. 1280x1024@100Hz, 235MHz freq, cost around $315. For me it was worth the extra money to get better quality.
