Toshiba TE2100 Won't Wake from Standby

I have two Toshiba TE2100 laptops and when updated with
SP1 and all other WIN XP updates they will not wake from
standby or Hibanation. I found that XPSP1 has some bugs
with hibanation but as far as i am aware standby should
still work. When you go to awaken the machine two line
appear on the screen and it locks up there. I have rebuilt
these machines with there supplied image and with a fresh
install these functions work fine. As soon as you perform
a windows update these machines start to have issues. I
would like to upgrade them with SP1 because of the added
security this provides however i would still like to be
able to use the standby function.
