Hi, all -
I have XP Home on a VIA Epia M9000 board. It's using the
VIA VT6307 IEEE 1394 firewire chip with two ports.
I have been able to plug in one external firewire hard
drive, a 160GB seagate, and all is well. I decided to
expand, bought an identical enclosure with a 200GB drive,
and plugged it into port 2. XP will not recognize the
drive.
Either drive works when plugged into port 1, neither drive
works in port 2. Sounded like a hardware issue to me, but
I have since learned that XP has trouble with multiple
firewire devices (KB hotfix 830987:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en- us;830987&Product=winxp ).
I was able to successfully get both drives working on a
Win2K box, but since that's also different hardware, I'm
not sure what I learned. At least the drives are both good.
