Never had the need to use it, but recently I connected a microphone to
the microphone input jack of my A7N8X Deluxe

I brought up the sound record to test it out and was not able to
record anything. So I just assumed the microphone was dead. I
brought it over to my laptop and it worked fine.

I checked the settings to make sure the microphone was not on mute,
but "mute" was unchecked.

Any idea what the problem might? Any thing I can check?

Did you make sure that you selected the right microphone
source in case you have front and rear microphone
connectors?

Yes I've tried setting the input to both Microphone 1 & 2 and have
tried the physical inputs on the MB as well as the ones connected to
the front the PC case.

Still no microphone input.

Are you running the newest audio driver set (4.31)?
http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_audio_4.31_win2KXP

If not, you may need to run the nvswap program to get the port
configured right
http://www.nvidia.com/object/nvswap_1.0
That may help sort it out.

The first thing I tried when I noticed that the microphone input
wasn't working was go to the NVIDIA site and install the latest audio
drivers (4.31).

I downloaded the nvswap anyway to give that a try...didn't help.

Only other quick idea I have is to disconnect the front panel
connections to the board and try the rear connector again. Possibly
something in the Front Panel assembly is shorting the circuit down
