Since replacing motherboard and hard drive I am unable to
play an old DOS game called Sherlock. The game displays
but the mouse cursor remains static and the game freezes.
The mouse is a Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical USB
connected to the mouse conn with a USB interconnection.
The mouse is fine for all other applications but I do
love playing my 15 year old game. Any ideas what can be
wrong??

Greetings --

Have you enabled "Legacy USB Support" in the new motherboard's
BIOS?

USB drivers may work in "Leagcy" mode, but only in a DOS Window. If you
start your system in a "pure" DOS modem (not XP), then the mouse may not be
available.

If this is truely a DOS game (i.e., pre win 3.1), then try booting the PC
from a DOS floppy that contains a file MOUSE.COM. If that fails, consider
geting a PS2 type mouse for that game.
If you need a DOD boot disk, try www.bootdisk.com.

Thank you for advice, unfortunately it has not solved the problem. So far I have enabled legacy USB support in BIOS, tried another port for the mouse and tried to use DOS boot disk (in fact 6 and the PC hung after the first disk). I use a PS2 compatible mouse and everything worked prior to a rebuild ie the game the mouse the operating system have not been changed. Any further ideas??
