here is a question..I have an A7N8X-Deluxe rev 2.0...the sound is real good
but not as good as what I had hoped with my Z-5300's Logitech speakers.Am I
going to gain or lose going to a Creative SB Audigy 2 ZS DVD edition?..it is
THX certified to match the speakers. Opinions appreciated..I know my SB 5.1
and Cambridge Soundworks on my other system really crank . So the basic
question is Soundstorm vs Audigy.

why would you even reply...I did not say I was trying to match my HK
receivers..I just don't think the Soundstorm is doing a good job...there is
some distortion and a other glitches that bother me. I was looking for
input..not negativity from a bored person.

Are you able to do a comparison before purchase?

the only comparrison I can do is between my SB Live 5.1 and the Soundstorm.
The SB Live seems to be way clearer but it is in my other system in a
different room. I could rip it out and install here but I would rather put
in something better if I am going to do that.

I upgraded to the same board back in January and ran the onboard sound
alongside my SB Live for a while until I decided if I wanted to keep the
Live. I played the same sample side by side on both cards at the same time
and I couldn't hear any difference (through a Yamaha amp and normal stereo
speakers) so I decided to pull the SB. The only real difference I've
noticed is that the output level on the onboard sound is a bit lower than
the SB was, but that's not a big deal.

Hope this helps.

thanks..do you have any noticeable distortion ?...I did not notice anything
until I set it up in 5.1 mode...in 2.1 with my Cambridge Soundworks it was a
great sounding unit..now with the 5.1 Logitechs I have distortion.

I get distortion from many MP3s and other sound unless I set the output
level down a bit. With the older audio drivers you could watch the spectrum
analyzer bars hitting the top, which is where clipping will occur. This is
horrible to listen to, and very bad for your speakers.

Looking at the new drivers, with nVmixer - and playing "Prodigy - Breathe"
through Winamp with the MAD plugin (which shows the MP3 has no clipping when
decoded), I get lots of red on the VU Meter unless I set Wave volume two
bars from the top - this is likely as a result of having amplification set
in the equalizer. This is actually how I configured them in the older
drivers, I believe.

If you have all your volume levels maxxed out... reduce them.

Spooky. :)

That's where my wave volume is set for Winamp (v 2.91 with MAD plug-in).

I have Musicmatch (master Volume)set at about 2/3's volume. That is the way
I countered the distortion..but like I said I only find this distortion in
5.1 mode..didn't seem to be noticeable in 2.1..but which is better the
soundstorm or Audigy?..I know Soundstorm seems better than my SB live..but
going Audigy would add THX support..(and knowing my luck a conflict)
