Hello -

Since installing Windows7 over vista last week, my EpsonStylus Photo RX500 will not work.
I followed someones advice on reinstalling it completely but that didn't work. I downloaded new drivers but when I run the printer software I get the following error message - "Epson does not recognize the OS. Epson PhotoStarter is not compatible with operating systems earlier than Windows 98...Installation was cancelled."
I have no idea why it would refer to an earlier version of windows??

I'm totally lost and need help,PLEASE?

Is there anyone out there who can send me a step-by-step on how to correct this?

Thank you for your reply.......I do appreciate it.

I contacted Epson by email. I became impatient so I sent them 4 different emails. I finally got a reply to each with one saying I needed to get a new printer because mine would never work on windows7...I didn't like hearing that so I thought I would try each reply I was sent.
The answer that worked was the most simple one telling me about the software "NOT" being compatible and to simply plug my printer back in and windows7 would do the rest....It did! That person was also right about the software because before receiving their reply I had tried to run it and it locked up my pc.

I do have another prob this with my laptop that I need help with. It happened after I went to a small town in Illinois back in May. While at their hotel I tried connecting but it didn't work. After coming home from that little trip, I've not been able to go online with it.... Before that I never had a problem with it here at home.....

Thanks

You actually got the Epson RX500 driver to install and print??? I have reinstalled windows 7, unplugged, plugged, this damn printer in a thousand times, still get an error saying that the driver install failed!!! It finds the driver, it just fails trying to install it... I've got an open issue with Epson, but they are basically saying "not our problem, call microsoft"... that's BS!!!

thanks

Yes my Epson works like it use to....I know you've done this but here's exactly what I did......
I first had tried several ideas that friends had suggested about uninstalling and reinstalling drivers but nothing worked...I was about to give up. Then I decided Epson "should" help so I sent them a few emails complaining about my problem. A few days went by then I got 3 or 4 replies.
The first reply was the one that worked for me. The person told me that the Epson RX500 "software" was NOT compatible with windows7 and that all I needed to do was "plug my printer back in to my usb port" and windows7 would do the rest....[I can't remember if I waited to turn it on]....After plugging my printer back in to the usb port it found the drivers and said it had installed them correctly and that my printer was ready to use....So I turned it on and wa-la it's back to normal....
The person that gave me the above info was also correct that "THE EPSON RX500 SOFTWARE IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH WINDOWS7." Before I knew that, I kept trying to run it and it would crash my pc big time.

Have anof you guys had a resounding success with this, or does it still prove to be a problem, I only ask as I have the same printer, and am thinking about getting windows 7 too.

Thanks.

I called Epson and a tech walked me through the installation of the correct driver. He had me look in the device manager and the epson RX500 was in there under other devices. Once I opened that up there were 2 driver versions when I clicked to update the driver. The correct one is version 6.07, not the default version 1.
I suggest anyone with the failed driver call Epson and they will help you. My RX500 is working now after the Windows 7 upgrade from Vista.

Hello babuu52,

It is always best to check with the software manufacturer FIRST. They will tell you if they have tested the product and the version, as well as whether or not it will work with Windows 7.
Check out the Windows 7 Compatibility site: (There you will find out about hardware and software compatibilty.)
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/en-us/default.aspx
There is a pulldown from which you can choose "hardware" and "software".
There are also some great articles, instructional videos and such to help with your Windows 7 at our Springboard site:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/default.aspx
In any event a lot of the times, Vista drivers will work in lieu of Windows 7 drivers, however, it's not 100%!
As stated previously, it's best to have the Windows 7 certified drivers installed.
Microsoft does have an official Windows 7 Support Forum located here http://tinyurl.com/9fhdl5 . It is supported by product specialists as well as engineers and support teams. You may want to check the threads available there for additional assitance and support.
