Tried using the Nvidia and the 3 Com lans with my X-Modem(ethernet ADSL) but
no luck.
The Ethernet ADSL modem works(syncs to line and shows that it auto detects
the Lan card as 100MB).
To use the modem you have to connect to a website to set your user
name&password(internet account).
Problem is that it cannot connect to the website and windows comes up with
page cannot be displayed.
So is it the Ethernet cable or what??

did you configure Windows correctly to connect to the net?..it is just not
an automatic thing sometimes..and if you have switched Ethernet ports you
probably would have to reconfigure

Has your operating system (you did not say which) loaded the correct drivers
for the NIC? My 3COM was recognized as something else under XP before I
loaded the drivers from the manufacturer's CDRom. Also, did you load the
correct ASUS motherboard chipset adapters from the MB's CDRom.

Do your LANs work _separately_ ?
On my Mobo (A7N8X Dlx ver 1.04) they do but as soon as I enable them
together, only the nVidia one is working.
With both enabled, never ever did I succeed to get anything from the 3Com
(under 98SE). Didn't try any OS else.

Yep, no probs there......
Anyway have now found out what was wrong......
Have always used usb adsl modems til now and have changed to using the
X-modem with a built in Network card in my pc.
Had loads of problems where the card and modem were not talking to each
other.
Main problem was that though the network card was set to obtain an ip
address it just would not.
Tried all sorts of things including setting ip address and stuff manual.
That worked and then stopped.
Tried new cat5 cable and network card, same...
Went into windows XP services and set DHCP client to auto and now the
network card/modem gets an ip address without me having to enter it.
So one problem solved .
Second problem.....
for a while the modem/card would connect automatically(I did not have to
enable the Local area connection)Now I have to all the time.
Any thoughts on this?
Thanks.
