I PURCHASED NEW 2700 RAM TO GET MY ATHLON 2000+ SPEED UP
TO 1660 - I GOT ASUS TO HELP THE BOARD RECOGNIZE IT BUT
WHEN I BOOT INTO WINDOWS -IN THE BOOT SCREEN THE GREEN
BULLET FREEZES AND DOES THAT EVERY TIME I TRY - ASUS GUY
SAID "LOOKS LIKE A WINDOW PROBLEM -BYE". ANYONE KNOW THE
TRICK TO GETTING XP TO ACCEPT NEW RAM AND PROCESSOR SPEED?

First, do not post using all caps.
Second, the speed rating of the RAM does not control the
speed of your computer. RAM speed ratings mean the fastest
speed that the mfg'r will certify that the RAM will be
stable. The speed of your CPU is set by the BIOS and the
motherboard and any jumpers that may be used. Most new mobo
designs use the BIOS. Some mobo lock the available speeds
and some allow over-clocking.
The details that are needed to answer your question are did
you replace all the RAM or did you just add to the RAM you
already had installed? How much RAM did you add?
What is the model of your ASUS mobo? What BIOS is
installed?

The OS could care less what speed the speed of your machine is at. You have
some piece of hardware that can't handle the bump in speed.

Your ram does not dictate your cpu speed.
