Umm, XP comes on a CD, and is bootable. If you have a purchased retail
version or the CD supplied by your PC maker, then you can use that. You need
to set your CDROM as the first boot device to use it. You can do this by
changing the boot order devices in your BIOS. Refer to your PC manufacturer
for help on that.

Just burn an image of the original (and bootable) XP CD.

I think making a copy is legal for backup purposes. After all, a disk can go
bad after a while. My W98SE CD disk became defective, but my back up copy
saved the day.

The Windows XP CD "is" bootable. You have to enable the CD to be the first
boot device in the computer bios.
