Some places block Facebook, YouTube etc.
You can VPN to your own PC / network and access to sites, bypassing the proxy.

Very interesting...I'm amazed that using facebook at someplace that blocks it (work, for example) would be something that important - I just wait until I get home.

There appear to be a number of free solutions out there, but some that require some configuring. I have an ASA at my house, so set up Cisco VPN for when I'm on public wifi or traveling.
