I have a P4C800-E Deluxe (BIOS 1009) which works fine most of the time
with XP Pro.

The only Problems I seem to encounter are:

On occasion the Hard Drive light stays on (Antec 880 Case). I have 2
Hard Drives on the primary IDE channel. (Not using RAID)

Sometimes XP will not recognize (lose sight of) the slave drive (DVD
player) on the Secondary IDE channel. There is a DVD write on the
Primary channel.

A Power off and on clears the problem.

Are you using an 80 wire type cable ? The IDE cable with the
thinner wire, has 80 wires connected to its 40 pin connectors.
40 of the wires are connected to ground, and this improves
signal transmission. It does sound like the drive controller
is hanging for some reason. You might try switching which drive
is master and which one is slave, or with an 80 wire cable,
you can even try "Cable Select" if you want, on both drives.

If the DVD player is the only device on the cable, and is
jumpered as master, does it hang with the IDE LED turned
on ?
