Can not see network computers

I am having the same problems as many. I have a XP Pro computer upstairs and
XP pro laptop both have wireless adapters that connect to a linksys router
downstairs I have two XP Pro computers and a network printer plugged into the
linksys wireless router downstairs. I am using the DHCP services on the
Linksys router. I can print to the network printer from upstairs with no
problems. I have a briefcase folder setup on the laptop to sync with the
upstairs computer it works great. I can not see the work station in Network
Places. Note, when I add a computer running Win98 to the network all
computers appear that is how I was able to setup the briefcase folder. This
sounds like a protocol issue? Can anyone help with this problem?

When you have a visibility problem between networked WinXP computers, that
changes depending upon the presence of a Win9x computer, the problem is quite
likely related to your browser (no I'm not talking about Internet Explorer).
The browsers in Win9x and WinNT/2K/XP don't work well together on the same LAN.

Identify the 2 WinXP computers that stay online the most, and designate them the
browsers. Make sure the browser service is running on those 2 computers.
Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Services. Verify that the Computer
Browser, and the TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper, services both show with Status =
Started.

Disable the browser on the other WinXP computers, and on the Win98 computer:

Power all computers off (to reset browser configurations on each). Power the
browser computers on first, then the other computers.

The Microsoft Browstat program will show us what browsers you have in your
domain / workgroup, at any time.

You can download Browstat from either:

Browstat is very small (40K), and needs no install. Just unzip the downloaded
file, copy browstat.exe to any folder in the Path, and run it from a command
window, by "browstat status". Make sure all computers give the same result.

Control Panel->Network Connections->[Right-click on
connection]->Properties, select TCP/IP, click on Properties, click on
Advanced, click on WINS tab, select "Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP".

That's what I've done on my Win2000 desktop and WinXP Pro laptop. When
I tried the procedure below, neither OS offered "NETBIOS" as a protocol
to install.

And my two computers still can't browse the other by name, although they
can by IP address.

Could it be a router (Linksys wireless) issue? I've assigned an IP
address to at least one of the computers (for port routing, so I can
connect to the computer remotely).
