Dual Monitors and Windows XP?

I'm thinking about adding a second monitor to my PC.

I have a Nvidia FX5200 AGP card in my PC today.

Can I buy another card of the same type, perhaps PCI, and have dual
functionality?

Is there anything special or any incompatibility concerns I need to be aware
of?

Do all applications support dual monitors?

What about games such as Half-Life, Quake, Woflentein, etc? If so, can I
easily turn off dual-monitor functionality?

Any help or direction would be appreciated.

I have been using dual monitors with no problem but I bought a double headed
(2 outputs) display adaptor.
Before that I was using one new card, and an older pci card with no problem,
only that the second display was
slower than the primary one.
If you are going to buy a new card think of buying a dual headed one instead
of buying a pci similar to your own.
The reason is that one dual card is better and easier to handle than 2
seperate cards. Not that it will not work.
However tt has been known though that some cards CANNOT work with mutliple
displays... so just make sure (if you are going to buy the pci one)
that no issues exists with dual monitors.

Yes some display adaptors (like mine - ati 9000) have one dvi and one vga
output, I have an adaptor that changes the DVI to VGA and
there is where I plug in the second monitor.
