I have a Toshiba laptop with an inbuilt keyboard mouse, and I have also been
using a regular desktop mouse. Worked fine for 2 years. But lately, if I
select the program list from START, the list sometimes vanishes when I hover
the mouse over it. It won't select the Favourites list on IE, either. I
checked for every kind of virus or spyware, looks clean. I removed the
desktop mouse, and uninstalled its driver. I uninstalled and reinstalled the
inbuilt mouse driver. Problem is still there intermittently, but is always
temporarily solved by uninstalling the mouse driver and rebooting.
I have made a shortcut to the mouse properties on the desktop.
When the START drop boxes are selecting OK, clicking this icon gets me the
properties box for the inbuilt mouse.
But when the START drop boxes are vanishing, I get the properties box for
the desktop mouse that I uninstalled.
I can only find one mouse in the hardware list, but it sure looks like I
have some kind of remnant of the second driver making trouble. How do I get
rid of it? If the answer involves editing the registry, I would appreciate
detailed instructions- the registry is a scary and unknown place to me :-)
