Thought I had completely destroyed the BIOS ROM on my P4PE-X. No post,
no video, but fans worked and I had lights on the CD/CD-RW and the
Hard drive activity light for a few seconds during the failed boot.

This mobo is equiped with a "Crashfree" Bios feature, so I was hoping
that the boot block was still intact. Using a suggestion from a user
on this group I replaced the AGP vid card with an old PCI and
disconnected all the drives, except the floppy. Using the info on the
ASUS site here
http://www.asus.com.cn/support/eng [...] index.aspx , I
created a bootable floppy with AFLASH.EXE and the unzipped P4PE-X
1005 Bios ROM on it (file name P4PE-X05.AWD)

I inserted the floppy and turned on the "dead" P4PE-X and finally got
video and the floppy started to load in DOS. The first time through I
mistakenly typed "aflsh.exe" instead of "aflash.exe". I got a bad file
name from DOS returned on the screen and after that my keyboard
numbers would not work, the .(period) key would only print ">" and I
realized all the keys on the keyboard were permanently in the Caps
Lock position. So I powered down , waited about 15 seconds and powered
back on. Thankfully, I got the video and floppy back, and was able to
reflash the BIOS. It did take a extraordinary amount of time for the
BIOS system to recovery and reflash, so just let it run. Hope this
helps you out and take care.
