P3B-F motherboard

Hello,

I am new to this group. So if this has been posted before I apologize. A
friend of mine gave me a computer with a P3B-F motherboard with an Intel 450
MHZ 100 MHZ FSB Slot 1 processor in it. I would like to get an 800 MHZ 100
MHZ FSB Slot 1 to replace the old processor. I recently flashed the BIOS to
Revision 1008 beta 4. However after poking around in the BIOS settings, I
noticed that the lowest core CPU voltage setting is 2.0 volts. The 800 MHZ
processor needs a core voltage around 1.7 volts. Will this make any
difference? Thanks in advance.

I'm sure from a theoretical perspective, it's not good to exceed the
recommended voltage of a cpu. In the long term, it may shorten the life of
a CPU. But from a practical/realistic perspective, the cpu should be able to
take that kind of voltage. The cpu may run a little hotter than it could
run at. You do it at your risk, but there are probably tonnes of people
that run it at so high voltage levels. Perhaps, it would help to get better
cooling in the machine.

Always cracks me up to see a post like this about an asus BX
motherboard running a PII and being handed off to someone else.
