Laptop Computer Screen goes black

My screen after a little while just shuts down. it looks
like it dies from the outer edges inward. after it goes
dark, i can't see any color, all i can see is grey and
black very faintly and with a light directly on it. i
use an ati mobility 9000 and have the latest version of
directx. thanks
