Can't install a win soft modem.
Lucent PCI V.90/V.92 or Motorola SM56 V90/V92 will
install.
No COM port is assigned And drivers do not install.
I get error code in device manager of 1 ,18 or 28.
Both drivers are Microsoft cirtified.
I also get a error message during detection of unable to
install modem.
The SM56 was working before XP reinstall after hardware
upgrade.

Is this a WinModem? Most of the WinModems use the CPU to do part of
the work for the Modem and aren't compatable with XP.

I use the same modem and driver. Using Asus P4P800 motherboard. Downloading,
i.e. receiving data is ok. So I can browse and download files of any size
just fine. However, uploading is problematic, I can't even e-mail and attach
a 32KB file, it will just freeze completely and I have to do a hard reset.
Anyone else having the same experience?
I used to use this same modem on Abit KR7A motherboard. I was using the
driver for Win2K at that time and its OK. The same driver will hang on
install with the Asus
