I recently did a clean install of Windows XP (inc SP1) on
my computer. There were no problems during installation
and I ran the system for a couple of weeks without any
trouble at all. However, during that time I had no need to
use my CD rewriter, which is a Mirai CRD-BP1700P-M. When I
tried to burn an audio track to CD Windows Media Player
told me it could not find a recording device. In My
Computer the Mirai drive is listed as a CD-R, the same as
my Hitachi CD/DVD drive which is read-only.

I then installed Nero Burning Rom and had no problems
burning the audio track to CD. I have also used
Steinberg's Clean 4.0 to burn audio tracks.

Right clicking on the Mirai drive and going to Properties
showed that there was no Recording tab. I have since
restored the Recording tab using a registry hack, and
enabled CD writing for the drive, but it is still not
recognised as a device with removable storage by Windows.

I have uninstalled the device in Device Manager then
rebooted. Windows detected the drive but it is still not
recognised as a CD rewriter.

I had previously used this drive under Windows XP on
another computer and had no problems with Windows
recognising it.
