WindowsXP reinstall and Critical Updates

Recently I had to reinstall an early version of WindowsXP home. To my
surprise I found that I had to download and install 48 critical updates from
Microsoft. With a dial-up modem this took several hours.

I noticed that the previous updates are shown in the Windows folder. Can the
updates be reinstalled from these folders or is there another way to prevent
the huge and time-consuming downloads?

Thanks
John Louis

John, I think that MS has a CD with all the necessary updates on it. They
were giving it away free. Maybe not. But go
check at www.microsoft.com
