HELP: CS video issue 1600 x 1200 ?

Hi,
I have been playing HL2 and more recently CS on the net. All has been
working well, with no problems. I foolishly thought I might try to see
if I could improve the screen display by upping my display from the....
1024 x 768 mode to 1600 x 1200. I went into CS options/video and made
the change... immediatly the monitor went blank. I know feel that my
monitor cannot display this mode (it is an old Iiyama 17"), but the
problem is... I cannot get back into the Options to alter the setting
back to 1024 x 768 mode! The monitor collapes every time I try to start
CS when it goes into the higher graphics mode. I then have to re-boot
the PC.

HL2 works ok still @ 1024 x 768, it's just CS that won't start.

Does anyone know how I can get into the options or file area to change
the video mode back to how it was...?

I did look into my CS profile directoy and found the 'CFG' file... I do
know how to edit these... but could not see anything obviosly related to
video modes! I even deleted the cfg file (bak first), thinking CS might
allow me to setup up the options again... but no luck

Sorry about the long winded post... but I really am stuck. Thanks in
advance for any help/ideas.

I'm running CS in 1024x768. In my config.cfg there is a line:
viewsize "120". Maybe you should check, which value you've
got for "viewsize" and try out "120" for it.
Just a guess..

Thanks for the reply Burkhardt... I will check that setting in the saved
backup cfg file I have. But I have resolved the problem now thanks.
I managed to borrow a more modern moniter, hooked it up, and when CS
went into the 1600 x 1200... the monitor hung onto the system enabling
me to see the CS error msg... about the bad video mode, enabling me to
choose an option to return to the previous (good) video mode ) All is
ok now. Thanks for taking the trouble to reply. It would be interesting
to see if that 'viewsize' has now altered. I will post a reply to let
you know.

viewsize is for field of view.
i have a vague recollection that deleting config.cfg will cause the
game to regenerate a default config.cfg next time you run it. you'll
have to reset all your binds etc but you should be able to play.
