Can't boot A7N8X from CD anymore

Hi all,

I just tried to boot into a known good FreeBSD cd on a machine with a
A7N8X2.0 motherboard. This reminded me that not too long ago I tried
to do just this with a known good Linux install CD and it had also
failed.

I had the CD at /dev/hdd (secondary-slave) so, following some advice I
found in the group, I switched it to /dev/hdb (primary-slave), but it
didn't change anything. Soft or hard reset it rolls right through to
the lilo boot screen. I have the boot order set to cd - floppy - hdd0,
and it sees a floppy everytime there's one there to boot off of.

This has been a great board so far, but I know it can boot a cd
because it has in the past, and all I've ever had on it is Linux and
FreeBSD. Is there a way to clear out the BIOS or CMOS or whatever it
is that controls the board's bootime probing so I can re-set
everything to the good old days?

Thanks,

I'm not using the same motherboard as you, but linux / freeDSD CD's use the
El Torrito standard for booting. In my case my bootable SuSe DVD also
failed to boot but the SuSe bootable CD did not. ?? I am not sure if my
DVD media is corrupt or it is an incompatibility with the El Torrito
standard and bootable DVD's.
However all is not lost and the workaround is to create a bootable floppy
first for FreeBSD or your linux distribution.
My DVD reader is on /dev/hdc which works ok with El Torrito CD's just not
DVD's. Before you go any further you may want to download Mikhail
Kupchik's Emergency boot CD:
http://ebcd.pcministry.com/

This will also produce an El Torrito CD so it will be a good test for your
system and the readme file also details making a boot floppy if your BIOS
cannot cope with El Torrito standards.

And that is what I shall do; kern & mfs .flp. I'll also try the ebcd
site. I was just getting lazy, throw in the CD and go...
