My computer had to have Windows XP reinstalled on my
computer recently, and the hard drive was wiped.

However, I need to get the information back. I've been
told that even if hard drives are re-formatted/ wiped etc
then information is still on there. Is this true?

And if so, how can I get the information back? Very
important files have been lost! Who (what kind of
specialist) do I need to see/ what can I do?

Any help would be most appreciated. Thank you!

Not really, although you can try some of those companies
that purport to recover files: http://www.runtime.org/index.html

I've actually had some luck with that, but it's certainly not perfect. Do a
search for dtidata; they have a number of data recovery programs, but they
aren't cheap.

Your other option would be to contact a data recovery company. That's not
cheap either. Depends on how much the data is worth to you.

But whatever you do, stop using the computer until you decide if you want to
spend the necessary money to recover your data. The more you write to the
drive, the less likely you are to be able to recover data.
