I have 2 computers both running XP Home. Computer(office) has been upgraded
to SP2. Computer(kitchen) Had major problems with SP2 so I did a full
restore. Virus and other issues. I finally got the internet on (kitchen)
Wirlesss Netgear wg311 adapter. Office is hard wired to Netgear wgt624U
router. Wireless seems slow but ok for now. I setup the network as MSHOME,
office and kitchen. File sharing is set. Wireless zero config stopped. I
can see in the workgroup the 2 computers. From Office I try to get to
kitchen. It askes me for a password it says it is trying to connect to
kitchen\guest. When I try to access office from kitchen it says I may not
have permission from administrator. Both computer users are setup as
administrators. I am confused beyond belief. I have taken advice on this
site and none of the remedies seem to work. Computer browser on, net bui on.
Very interesting. Guest off. I could lose the wife over
this. Ok not that bad but she has lost faith in me. All firewalls seem to
be off. Running Mcafee and just started Norton. Disabled both firwalls.
Disabled windows firewalls. Have avg 6.0 running in background for spyware.
Need help soon

Thanks for any help

Tim

Tried to follw your website but got to windows firewall info and then to the
advanced tab and it told me page not found. Everything up till then was
correct as far as I could see. I do have sp2 on the office computer. A
weird thing though. In the local are properties my authentification tab is
missing. Very interesting.

The page not found error has been corrected. That is actually the last page
anyway.

Any idea why authentication tab is missing? Still no luck in getting to the
network after going therough the setup for network as you state. It is funny
that one computer says permission not granted and another one asks for a
password

Try applying the following file to all XP PCs on your network, then reboot
them and see if there is any difference.

The only difference now is that the kitchen computer in workgroup does not
see the office computer. Office computer unable to to logon to kitchen,
still asking for a password.

On both PC's do the following:

click Start, click Run, type:
net user guest /active:yes (and hit enter)

Then, click Start, click Run, type:

control userpasswords2 (and hit enter)

Click Guest, click Reset Password and then click OK without entering a new
password.

The office logged into the kitchen but still problem with kitchen getting to
the office then all hell broke loose. Looks like device driver problems. E
machines says there machines not compatible with wireless networks. Hmmmmm
well I will try later to solve it now. Thanks for the useful info Carey

Archived from groups: microsoft.public.windows.networking.wireless (More info?)

There is nothing specific about any PC hardware that would make it
incompatible with wireless networks. That is entirely operating system
based.

You may have a wireless device that has poorly written or old drivers. Try
downloading the latest drivers from the wireless manufacturer or
calling/emailing the wireless manufacturers technical support, rather than
the PC manufacturer.

You can also email me at a later time if you need assistance.

At my site http://www.connectionwizard.org/ there are many instructions on setting up a wireless and encrypting it for free. The problem I think you are having with your router might have something to do with its configuration. Go to my site and start reading in the services tab on wireless configuration and encryption. It could be a many things doing this to you from signal issues to poor configuration of the router or wireless card. It could also be an incompatible wireless card as well. You will find tons of free info on all of this there. But it sounds like either you are trying to use the same encryption code for 2 computers or your DHCP slots are not set right. Need to set the DHCP for the number of users and if it is pre set to 1 by the factory or someone else it will only let one connect. And if you are using the same encryption code for both computers it could also cause issues with them both being online.
