All of a sudden I can not check the hard drive for errors.

I am running XP home edition.

After the restart I get the message:

Checking File System on C:
The type of the file system is NTFS.
Cannot open the volume for direct access.

Then the system comes up normally instead of doing all of
the error checking.

Hope you can help!

Hi,

Try this way,

Start/Run/ and type in CHKDSK /F then reboot.
Chkdsk should run after windows started.

I just tried CHKDSK /F as per your suggestion.

I get a message that says it will run on the next restart.

So I re-booted but CHKDSK did not run - the computer just
came up as normal.
