"My" display settings have developed a problem. Checking
the settings resolution is set at 800x600 with 4 bit
colour. As these are the only listed options, I cannot
change them. The card is a nvida vanta. It has worked
fine for the past 2 years.
I suspect this is merely a syptom though as System
Restore wont allow me to restore to any of the restore
points in the last ten days.
Nothing new has been added to the system during this time
and device manager is reporting no problems.
Suggestions?

I think the best option is to remove the Graphics card and reinstall it's driver.
