I replaced the athlon 1.1GHz T-Bird with an Athlon 1.3GHz but for some
reason it only runs at 1 GHz . I tried a different one and it does the same
thing. The A7V is in "jumper free" mode, but I don't see any setting in the
bios to change the multiplier. If I raise the FSB setting it raises the
DRAM setting as well and the system won't run. i kind of new at this so any
help would be appreciated. The manual is not very clear and appears to be
outdated.

Thanks,
Mike

I have an A7V motherboard with a 1300MHz T'Bird in it, I had to update the
BIOS to get it to recognise the CPU correctly.

You did get a 100FSB CPU didn't you as the A7V only has a 100FSB.

http://www.a7vtroubleshooting.com/info/cpu/index.htm

Read at the bottom of page. Verify that you have the "B" version for 200MHz
FSB. Try setting multiplier 12,5 and use latest BIOS.

If you have the 266MHz FSB version, you're seeing normal behaviour as is.

darn.... it IS the 222 MHz FSB version. : (
I didn't realize that when I bought it.

It is indeed the 266 MHz FSB version... I guess I bought the wrong one. I
did update the bios though with 1011. I don't see any setting for the
multiplier in the bios. It's set for jumper free mode. shouldn't there be a
setting for multiplier?

thanks,
Mike

yes it should. Consult page 58 in manual ver. 1.04. (also online at
ftp.asus.com.tw)

Set "operating frquency setting" to "user defined", and it should be
possible to change multi.

It's also possible to set via dipswitches in jumpermode. (page 22). Highest
multi you can set is 12,5, for 1250MHz. With a bit tweaking on FSB to
105-106MHz, a frequency of 1333 could possibly be reached.

The CPU is most likely locked, but those T-birds could be unlocked with
pencil. Seek online help for a guide for unlocking the 1333MHz Athlon C
Thunderbird.
