Hi,

Try to remove all the printer drivers from add or remove program.
Go to control panel, click the printer & fax icon, delete the printer icon.
Go to the printer manufacturer's website and download the latest XP compatible drivers and save it to a special folder (do not save it to desktop).
Start/run/ and type in MSCONFIG, click the startup tab and uncheck the boxes for the antiVirus applications, click Apply and OK then reboot.
After reboot, check the box for windows warning messages to not to appear again.
Now, make sure the antiVirus application is not running at the background.
Open the specific folder and install the drivers.

Note: read the Read Me file in this folder before installing the drivers. Strictly follow the installation instructions.

Usually there are 3 methods to install the printer drivers depending on the brand and model:
1. Connect and power on the printer before installing the drivers.
2. Install the drivers before connecting and power on the printer.
3. Connect the printer and then install the drivers, power on the printer when prompted.

After the drivers is successfully installed, reboot the PC.
After reboot, check the printer functions to ensure it is working normally.
Run MSCONFIG again restore the default settings under the startup tab then reboot.

Hope it helps.

Peter

You're almost correct, Peter, but you've missed a step - the most crucial
one as it means that the old driver will just be reinstalled.

The correct procedure is below:-

How to correctly remove and reinstall a printer driver
http://www.coribright.com/Windows/Article%20One.htm

DO NOT OMIT STEP FOUR OR YOU WILL REINSTALL THE CORRUPT DRIVER
