I have connected the Motorola usb data cable kit between an XP Pro
laptop and a Motorola v60t. The connection works for sync and the
"phone tools" apps, of which I have the latest version installed.

I have not been able to get phone to dial up to my isp, however. The
phone light turns on, but nothing dials, and I get a variety of
messages saying that either the modem is unavailable or the number is
busy (which it never dials!).

I tested the setup using a v60i on Verizon Wireless and call went
through, no problem. So I know the cable, computer, and drivers are
all in order.

The v60t is on Cingular, but from what I've read, this should still
work.

Am I missing something? Is the phone bad? Any ideas? Thanks!

Craig,

I made the same mistake on my Nokia. You have to purchase the cingular
cable for the phone and activate the modem.

Since it is a digital phone, the modem is not in the phone but at the
central office. You might execute AT commands but your data goes on the
network as bits and is made into modem tones at the modem bank

Anyway, you might want to consider GPRS. IT might be just as cheep.
Thats what I have and it works great.

I found this same problem when I switched from Verizon.

After 30 minutes on teh phone with cingular, they flipped whatever switch
they needed and it worked.

I just got a new account because I moved out of state, and now i cant dial
anymore again. Looks like I'll have to call them.

Good Luck.
