Hi, I think both my Athlon tbird 1GHz cpu and a7v133 mainboard have blown
itself.

I was hoping someone could recommend me a board to upgrade to. I dont have
that much money so I am not considerinf getting an AMD 64 cpu right now. I
have my eye on an AMD XP cpu. I guess this would mean i should be
considering the ASUS A7N8X series of mainboards, is this right?

Now my system currently has
5 x HDDs,
1 x dvd player
1 x cdrom burner

When I look at the ASUS A7N8X they only seem to have 2 IDE slots. They do
talk about RAID. I cannot see it... My A7V133 has 2 IDE and 2 RAID slots..
so I can put in all my 7 devices. But it looks like i can only put in 4
devices in the A7N8X. Or does the board come with a pci raid card, or can
you attach more than 2 devices per ide/raid slot onboard? I am confused.

Which of the boards would you recommend (which is good for overclocking
also), info i need is:

1. what CPU i should get
2. what mainboard
3. what RAM

Thanks! Any help appreciated!

it depends on what are your needs. I found myself ok with an a7v600,
but you should consider if you plan to go ove a 64 bit platform,
wich I didn't choose.

with a pci extracard you could as well get all the devices attached
but why do you have such all hard disk ? probably in size they are
small than a 250 or 160 gb you could get now. then you could put
that in raid to be safe, if you got all them for safe data copy.

For overclocking you can't push that much without loosing stability.

I have both an a7v133 and a a7v600, no overclock. I read on a forum
you can kick it up with a 2500 mobile Xp, with a wire modification to reach
higher multipliers (133), but I prefer to run it at 2100 with never a
problem,
as it is also stated on the asus site.

the a7v600 can also run the 2500+ Xp m at higher multipliers, but
I really don't want it to run so fast for a month and then fry up.

so it is more than ok with its 3200+.

this, amd talks.

At least XP2600 333fsb

> 2. what mainboard

A7N8X-X no frills or deluxe with frills

> 3. what RAM

At least one stick 512MB 400Mhz or faster whether you run at speed or not.

With HDDs you can always buy an external USB 2.0 case for one of them, which
is good for your storage drive.
