Visioneer 7100 and Windows XP updates.

I purchased 7100 scanner in November tried it and put it
aside because I had Visioneer 8100 in good working order
with Windows 98. I purchased a Brother HL-1440 Laser and
decieded it was time to do everything on my XP
Professional SP1 computer last week. When I reinstalled
the scanner with All "recommended" and "security"
updates installed, I got standard problems associated
with knowledge Base Articles 821690 and 819017.

1)Updated drivers to current available Windows XP drivers
from Visioneer.com site. 2)Installed, 3)reinstalled, 3)
used Visioneer utility tools to clean all
visioneer/paperport files from system. Problems got
worse not better. Internet explorer and other files
constantly hung on start-up. Problems consistently went
away when the scanner was removed and the computer was
rebooted.

4)Repaired Windows XP Pro SP1 by reinstalling over it
self with the help of the Windows XP CD and downloading
all updates and drivers. No improvement.

I knew these scanners worked since I have 2 friends using
them with XP. They were all purchased from the same
store within 4 hours. The only difference is my computer
had all updates.

5)Got another hard drive, wrote zeros to eliminate any
old stuff and did a fresh installation with the exact
same equipment except for the hard drive. Scanner
operated correctly as in November 2003. 6) Updated all
security XP updates from the Microsoft site. Still
worked well. 7)Updated most recommend updates except:

Scanner still works great with NO problems .

Should I report this to anyone at Microsoft. How would I
report it since it seems to be related to the XP updates?

Or does this seem incorrect from your point of view?

I should also stated that I used the old drivers on the
Cd ...did not even have to update the One touch 3.0 or
Paperport 7.02 software and drivers as suggested by the
knowledge base articles above. Most Other software still
has not been installed on the new hard drive.... For
example Office 2000, Norton SystemWorks 2003, Windows
Instant Messenger, ZoneAlarm,
