Baldurs Gate series and Star Wars Knights of The Old Republic are my two all time favorites. If you want some older ones:
Might & Magic 6
Bards Tale
Fallout 1 and 2 (2 is best)

How about Morrowind? I am in the process of getting it and have heard only good things.

If you are going to play online there are multiple choices of course: Asheron's Call, Everquest, etc

I'm at Lv.9 with Morrowind and I have Yet-to-do the first quest on the main plot...just been wondering around trying to stay alive.
This is my 2nd go around with this game. The first try was on my old 450PIII which died on me the day before I built my new box. 2500+ adm,1 gig of extreme 3200,9800pro. There is a noticeable difference in the quality between the 2 boxes. Yet the 450 did run the game(between the slow downs..).
If you have not played Morrowind get the gotty addition..$30.

Two other games that I just finished, Sacred and Gothic II where both excellent.

You can't go wrong with: Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate II (my personal all time fav), Morrowind (excellent, but big, really big), and Knights Of The Old Republic (pc version of course. probably my all time second fav). Then lets not forget Fallout and Fallout II.

I also enjoyed The Temple of Elemental Evil (despite all the griping I've read about it). Neverwinter Nights isn't all that bad either, especially if you find some good user made modules.

gothic II is made by JoWood, eh? I just purchased Arx Fatalis(also by JoWood) and it is a pretty good game. I've already got BG I and II, Morrowind with first expansion, and in my opinion this game is much better than all of those. you say gothic II is worth a try also, eh? I was also thinking of trying Divine Divinity, anybody try that one yet?

I vote against Morrowind, as the game is horribly unbalanced. It's fun to explore, but way too easy to develop an uber-character (completely legitimately, with no cheats, I might add) that can breeze through the main game. This gets old quick.

Gothic II has the same look and feel as Ultima IX Ascension or Blade of Darkness. Its a sp with a great look, you got zoom or can be in the first person. There's enough to find on the ground but not that much. It's openended, has a well balanced fighting system and is just put togeather nicely.

One of the small negetives to the game is it ran my 2500+,gig of 3200,9800 pro.....harder than Far Cry. recommended 1.2 system.

All that said IF yr a rpger It is a must have!
