Have an optical wheel mouse which jumps (snaps to) for no
apparent reason continuously (occurs on 1 out of every 10
or so mouse movements, <not while clicking/scrolling with
wheel>). Sometimes it takes a big jump top or bottom,
and other times seems to be trying to jump but if I move
in opposite direction it only takes a couple of small
hops). Seems to be snapping to the close button
(topright) or sometimes to the start button/ taskbar app
if the taskbar is visible.

This is becoming annoying!! :(

Mouse settings:
SNAP TO feature is OFF
ENHANCE POINTER PRECISION is ON (only feature that's on)

This occurs and is confirmed on two XP machines (work &
home)

WORK (settings)===============================
DELL USB mouse plugged into the USB1.0 port under XP (all
critical patchs/SPs done) on a DELL P4 (2.4GHz)

Mouse: HID compliant
Driver: MS
Date: 7/1/2001
Driver: 5.1.2600.0

Files:
mouclass.sys (provider: 5.1.2600.1106 (xpsp1.020828-1920)
mouhid.sys (provider: 5.1.2600.0 (XP Client.010817-1148)

HOME (settings)===============================
MS USB mouse plugged via connector to KVM into PS/2 port
(previously directly into the PS/2 port and same effect).

Don't have details, but probably similar to above (all
SP's made and machine loaded with default XP mouse
drivers and files).

Yep, I believe it's related to many other mouse issues.
