i am unable to play dvd's on my combo drive,,,cd's work
fine,[ music & data ] but dvd's generate a message saying
that Windows cannot read the disc because "it may not
support" the type of format or that the disc might
be "corrupted or damaged"

upon checking my error log, however, it notes that my
cd/dvd drive has a " bad block" .I recently had a virus ,
but my computer has been cleaned & is now virus-free.
might the virus have caused the problem? How can I repair
it?

Win XP Home Edition Dell Laptop Smart Step 200 Pentium
4 TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD C2502 512 mb memory 30 gigs.

Does the DVD play in another DVD drive? If it does, replace the drive, hardware has been known to go bad.

I had "bad block" errors on a HP combo drive. HP replaced it, then the replqcement went bad.
