Recently upgraded to XP but now my scanner drivers won't
load properly and then won't uninstall either. Scanner
is 4 years old and worked fine with windows 98. Scanner
is a Mira Scan. Can anyone help?

www.scanner-drivers.com. You must use either Windows 2000 drivers or XP
drivers. As you've already discovered, Windows9x drivers will NOT work.

You didn't mention a model number for your scanner, but there may be XP
drivers for it:

http://www.benq.com/drivers/imaging_drivers.html

(I'm not sure whether Benq was spun off from Acer or whether it's just a new
brand name for the former Acer Open peripherals, but the Mirascan devices
are now supported by Benq.)

Good luck.

Address altered. nkbob is really bobkn.

Check the manufacturers website for Windows XP drivers, Windows 98
drivers will not work.
Otherwise a newer scanner may be required.

all my USB devices stopped working, after installing
patches from microsoft to WINXP professional, no
solutions available online.

ready to clean up my computer and revert to a non
patched version.

why are things so difficult ? especially as this must be
a known problem.

I assume the patches are probably worse than the disease
they are supposed to cure.

Before re-installing Windows XP, go to Safe Mode and
open Device Manager. Uninstall the drivers under the
USB heading. Reboot the computer. The drivers should
be re-installed and, hopefully, USB is functional again.
