Updated Driver for Mouse

I have a Omisys microsoft ps/2 mouse that's a few years
old. It's been acting weird lately (lagging and hanging
movements when I play online games). I adjusted the
hardware acceleration
under "Display/Advanced/Troubleshooter" in my Windows XP
control panel but the problem still persists. The mouse
movements continue to be very sluggish. It occurred to me
that perhaps a file is damaged or corrupted in my mouse
software. When I went to the Omisys site to look for a
driver I noticed they no longer manufacture mice. So then
I went to Microsoft's site but could not find a driver
for a standard mouse like mine. (It's a basic 2 button
wheel mouse, non-optical). Can anyone suggest which mouse
driver in Microsoft's current listing would be
appropriate/adaptable to my mouse? Any other suggestions
to address the lagging/hanging mouse movements would be
appreciated.

Windows XP ships with a standard driver for a PS/2 Mouse.
If you are having problems I would suggest that you
purchase a new mouse. They are quite inexpensive.

On the other hand, it may not be the mouse at all. You
may have a problem that affects the mouse movement that
has nothing to do with the mouse.

Have you done all of the Windows Critical Updates ?
Do you have current anti-virus software ?
Do you have current anti-spyware software ?
Do you run the Internet Connection Firewall ?
