I just bought an asus a7v400-mx and an athalon 3000. For some reason
I can only get the processor to work when I put the dip switch
settings to 100mhz. The problem is that cuts the processor speed in
half. When I set it to 200mhz the computer just starts up with
nothing on the screen and just sits there. Any help would really be
appreciated. Thanx

Have you looked at the top surface of the processor ? Have
the bridges been modified by someone ? Maybe your processor
is remarked/relabelled. Use CPUZ to list the specifics for
the processor, and see if the default multiplier for the chip is
listed as 10.5x. (There are two 3000+, one with FSB333 and the
other with FSB400. If you set the FSB333 one to FSB400, that would
probably need extra Vcore for the overclock to 2600MHz! Verify
whether the processor is a FSB333 or FSB400, before invoking
any conspiracy theories.)

The only parameter you can rely on, is the Model number. Model 10
is Barton, so with CPUZ you can determine if you got a Barton
or not. The other characteristics are programmable by hacking
the bridges. While it is easy to mod a Barton 2500+ to make a
3200+ (just change default FSB bits), I don't see making a
Barton 3000+ from something else to be that much fun. Your
problem is probably a mixup between FSB333 and FSB400 models.

Just a guess,
Paul

Hi

Are you quite sure that the 3000+ is a fsb400 cpu ? it is also
available in a fsb333 version.

400/2=200, but 333/2=166.

Beware also what agp speed is set to. Further I hope ram is pc3200, so
that it can run fsb200.

best regards

John

I just built one of these with an Athlon 2800+, *yesterday*, for my
grandson, and had trouble getting it to run the processor > 100 FSB. I
ended up clearing and reflashing the BIOS and again setting the dip
switches to 166 and it worked. But it should have worked first time. Don't
know why.

AAMOI, its a good value for money board and does its intended job well.

I have the A7V400-MX mounted with a XP2500+ at 166Mhz, for FSB200 you
need to make sure your XP3000+ is a FSB200 version and your RAM is
PC3200 certified.

BTW what is your CPU / Mobo temperature ? I have the bad feeling that
the temp probe is not accurate and gives overestimated results ?

I just recently purchased the same motherboard in a combo with an amd
athlon 3200+ (2200 ghz) and when I initially set the board for 100
mhz it showed my cpu at 1100 ghz. I then set the board for 200 mhz
and got my full 2200 ghz. Just for kicks make sure that 100% of all
your additional hardware is disconnected. Disconnect all hard
drives, cd-rom drives and floppy drives not only from the
motherboard, but from the power supply as well. In addition, make
sure to unplug any add in cards you might have (extra video card) and
try and boot with the onboard video and your PC set at 200 mhz. If
it works then begin to add back items one at a time to see if some
items is causing the problem.

If you are already running the board bare and you still get nothing
then you are going to either need to test the 3000+ processor on
another motherboard that is rated for it to make sure the problem
doesn't lie with the processor.

You could go to your local COMPUSA store or Best Buy store to pick up
either an additional motherboard or process to test with. Both
stores have a 14 day return policy if you end up not needing their
product after testing
