Whenever i connect any usb device to my computer, the
whole thing will freeze up for about 30 seconds, then
maybe come back for about 10 seconds, then freeze up for
another 30, and so on... until it eventually freezes up
for good.

The only way around this is to restart the PC and unplug
all USB Devices. Then you have to re-install the drivers
for the USB hub before you plug in any usb devices. After
you re-install the usb hub drivers it works fine... until
the next time you restart.

Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Thanks in advance

Install the latest chipset drivers for your motherboard. Also, if your
maotherboard is based on a VIA chipset, then you should also install the VIA
USB filter drivers.

Disconnect all USB devices.

Remove all USB ports/root hub/hubs from Device Management

Make sure SP1(a) is installed correctly.

Reboot! XP should re-detect the USB ports and root hubs.

Also, you may want to try a powered, external USB hub. It could be that you
system is not giving enough power to the USB ports.
